Beautiful! I got a picture of one yesterday. It wasn't that great of a photo. A few were blurry. As I got closer... the Blue Heron got real tense and flew away!

Your pictures are amazing!

This could be on the cover of a magazine. And this is a Fuji camera? Wow!

I love Herons! I think it's my totem animal actually....according to the native mythology where I live, they represent perfectionism. Busted!

Those are outstanding shots! I really need a new camera...

Thanks all!

Darn those Herons are skittish, but well worth the wait. Like you said Donna Marie, they tend to fly away when you get too close, which happened to me several times. I just kept going back to the river and shooting.

Becky, I'm not so sure he was posing for me as much as sizing me up! LOL!

Country Girl Kate, thank goodness for a small touch of photoshop ; )

Dog Trot Farm, I always enjoy your blog too!

I didn't know they could be a totem animal Carolynn, but perfection would seem to match their incredible posture, grace and look.

Thank you for stopping by Ashley!

In downtown Exeter, behind the old buildings, is where the falls are. The Heron's tend to congregate there first thing in the morning to do a little fishing. I believe many were out fishing for their young since they would only stay a short time before flying off into the distance.

My friend from the local blog Hip Chick was able to find a heronry! How I wish I had the time to go see it for myself, as that would have surely been some wonderful photos, but my time is limited so it didn't happen.

As always I appreciate all your thoughtful comments!

I love this guy. I drew him out on a 30 inch canvas last night, stepped away, and realized I had something that looked like a duck. Will try again this evening. : )
